history

The origin of the VPV insurance group lies in the death fund for the employees of the post office founded in 1827. It was based on the idea of the postal worker WH Matthias, who wanted to create a system with which postal workers could take care of the financial security of their family themselves. In the statutes it was agreed that "in the event of the death of one of their participants, his surviving dependents would receive a payment of 200 Reichstalers". In 1922, employees of the Royal Württemberg Transport Authority were also included, creating the Bahn- und Post-Sterbekasse in Stuttgart VVaG . Through the merger with the Berliner Postversicherung (1959), the Bayerische Postversicherung (1982) and the Kölner Postversicherung (1998), today's VPV insurance group emerged. VPV Lebensversicherungs-AG , founded in 1992, made the insurance products available to non-members as well.

From 1999 to 2003 VPV was the official shirt sponsor of the German soccer club 1. FC Köln .
