VZ.net (short for directory ) is an online network that emerges from the predecessors StudiVZ and meinVZ . The social network was founded in April 2020 and is aimed at German-speaking users, especially the remaining members of StudiVZ and meinVZ.

The network was created by Lieferando founder Jörg Gerbig after taking over the two old networks.

history

A new platform was promised as early as the end of 2017 following the insolvency of the operating company poolworks .

Since the two networks studiVZ, which has existed since 2005, and meinVZ, which has existed since 2008 , have lost a large part of their members from the late 2000s due to intense competition, especially from Facebook , those will be shut down on June 30, 2020 and those there stored data deleted.

The few remaining active members of the studiVZ platform intended for students can use an import function to transfer their data to the newly created platform. This function is also available to meinVZ members.

The service is funded through advertisements .

Currently only the beta version is available, which is to be further developed with the help of feedback from users in the coming period (as of May 2020).

VZ.net builds on a feeling of nostalgia for the members of the old networks, so despite the revised design and layout, most of their functions have been taken over:

particularities

The network operators emphasize that the network pays particular attention to data protection and does not track user activities. For example, users can turn off personalized advertising. The data is only saved on German servers. The online service also promises improved adaptation to the browser of mobile devices, but has not yet released its own app (as of May 2020), as is common in the industry.

The managing director Agneta Binninger emphasizes on the topic of the content of the network that the platform is specifically about group communication.
