Vahram Atayan

Vahram Atayan (* 1972 in Yerevan ) is a German linguist and translation scholar . He teaches as a professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , New Philology Faculty, Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1988, Atayan earned a degree in physics from Yerevan State University , Armenia. In 2001 he completed his studies as a qualified translator for Italian and French at Saarland University , where he obtained his doctorate in 2006 on the subject of macrostructures of argumentation in German, French and Italian . For this dissertation, Atayan received the Elise Richter Prize of the German Romanists Association in 2007 for the best linguistic doctoral thesis and, also in 2007, the Eduard Martin Prize of the Association of Friends of Saarland University for the best dissertation of the Philosophical Faculty II of the University of Saarland.

In 2011 he completed his habilitation on text and translation in the Romance languages: between necessity and possibility and has been professor of translation studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and head of the French and Italian departments at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting since 2012 .

Atayan has been working as a freelance interpreter and translator since 2005 and has a general sworn in for the Saarland courts and notaries for the languages ​​Armenian, French, Italian and Russian.

Atayan is a member of the German Association of Romanists and the German Association of Italianists. He is also a member of the Comité de lecture of the magazine Mots. Les langages du politique and co-editor of the RHETHOS series.
