Vahto [ ˈvɑhtɔ ] is a former community in southwest Finland . At the beginning of 2009 it was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Rusko .

Vahto lies in the landscape Finland Proper 21 km north of the city of Turku . The municipality of Vahto had an area of ​​77.37 km². The former municipality is crossed by Osern in a north-south direction . 40% of the area is forested, 28% is used for agriculture. The villages of Askainen, Auvainen, Hemmola, Hyrköinen, Inkinen, Kautranta, Kierikkala, Koivisto, Kylämäki, Laukola, Lavamäki, Parikka, Peijari, Riittiö, Seppälä, Silvola and Sysimäki belonged to the municipality of Vahto. The last population was 1,919. The community was monolingual in Finnish .

Originally Vahto belonged to the parish of Rusko. Around 1630 the widow of a landlord had a wooden chapel built in the village. Based on this, Vahto was then called Puu-Rusko ("Wood Rusko"). The church of Vahto dates from 1804. In the course of the separation of the administration of the rural parishes from the church administration, the political municipality of Vahto was created in 1865.
