The Vaihinger May Day is held annually on Whit Monday in Vaihingen celebrated. The folk festival is one of the oldest children's and local festivals in Baden-Württemberg . The first documentary mentions of a Vaihingen children's festival and children's parade on this day can be found in 1687 and 1706.

procedure

According to the origins and tradition, May Day actually only lasts from Monday to Tuesday, but the fairground is open from Saturday evening. The May Day wine tasting also takes place on this day , at which the local winegrowers and cooperatives present themselves.

Local associations as well as various schools and other institutions take part in the annual May Day parade. It begins with a reenactment of the foundation ceremony and a speech by the mayor and a guest on the market square in the morning. The peculiarity of the move is that a joint church visit in the Protestant town church is switched on in the middle. This is considered one-time. The parade on the market square has been moderated for several years.

At the end of the parade there is the old tradition of the roundabout celebration in a small cauldron lined with chestnut trees in the valley floodplain on the Enz.The core of the roundabout celebration is the rafting song and rafting dance (from the 20th century) of the eighth graders of the Vaihingen city schools (secondary and secondary school) , High schools). Another traditional item on the program is the May Day poem ("D'zit isch do ..."), performed by primary school students in grade 2. Giving the primary lecture on the annual May Day motto is still a great honor for high school students in grade 11 In the run to the May , the third graders from the Vaihingen elementary schools compete against each other - one of the oldest parts of the festival. The children traditionally receive (the previously valuable) writing paper as a prize. May day ends on Tuesday evening with the fireworks and the nightly singing of folk songs on the market square.
