Valdis "Val" Semeiks (born February 5, 1955 ) is an American comic artist .

Life and work

Born in the United States to Latvian immigrants, Semeiks started working for an advertising agency after graduating from high school in chemistry and math. Semeiks began working as a full-time comic book artist in 1986 when he was hired by Marvel Publishers to contribute drawings for the King Kull series , which appeared as a backup series in the fantasy comic series The Savage Sword of Conan . His work on King Bull was so popular that Semeiks was eventually promoted to draftsman of the actual Conan stories, the main stories of the Conan series. Since then, Semeiks has mainly worked as a pencil draftsman for the large US comic publisher DC-Comics . For DC, Semeiks drew the satirical comic series Lobo in the 1990s , which is about an extremely brutal alien bounty hunter, as well as the series The Demon , which is about the experiences of the magician Jason Blood, who due to an ominous curse on a malicious demon named Etrigan is bound. In both cases, the British author Alan Grant - who wrote the stories to be drawn by Semeiks - was Semeik's artistic partner.

After a temporary move to Marvel Comics , where he worked on the series X-Men and Wolverine , Semeiks returned to DC and was entrusted with drawing assignments for the series JLA and Legends of the Dark Knight .

Besides Semeiks has for the US MAD Magazine worked as well as an illustrator for the series Big Book of Paradox Press and several novels of the Icewind Dale trilogy of the author RA Salvatore.
