Valensian splint

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Valenser splint is an orthopedic aid in the event of partial or total failure of the muscles that lift the feet in the lower leg with varus malalignment; it is used in particular in the case of spastic paresis .

It is made to measure by the orthopedic shoemaker or mechanic in boots or on shoes and has a spring and a joint. Thanks to the medial rail guide with the bracket firmly mounted under the shoe, the foot is guided in the correct position during the swing phase. The foot lifter mechanism housed in the joint largely prevents tripping over the tip of the foot. Affected patients walk faster and more symmetrically with better ground contact and greater forward displacement during the standing leg phase when they wear a Valenser splint.
