Valentin Vodev (* 1978 in Sofia ) is an Austrian industrial designer .

biography

Valentin Vodev was born in 1978 in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 1998 he came to Vienna and completed product design and industrial design at the University of Applied Arts , then Design Products at the Royal College of Art in London. Vodev founded his own studio while still a student. In addition to commissions from various international customers, he designed products in the areas of consumer goods, means of transport, furniture and design for public spaces. In 2013 he founded the company VELLO together with Valerie Wolff.

Vodev worked with designer and architect Ron Arad and British designer Sebastian Conran. In 2011 and 2013 he was curator for Sofia Design Week and in 2014 in the creative team of One Design Week.

One of his first internationally known projects was the Roller Buggy , a stroller that can be expanded into a scooter . Vodev also achieved international recognition with products such as the “Pullchair”, a pram that fits in a laptop bag, the “Biquattro”, an electric transport bike, and the “Vienna Bike”, a compact, foldable cargo tricycle. The Vienna Bike was presented at the London Eco-Rally 2011 and selected by the European Commission to represent Austria in one of 27 eco-success stories. It was also published in the book “100 best Bikes”.

In cooperation with the cult brand Lohner , Vodev designed the Lea e-scooter , using a model from the 1960s and developing it further. His design product VELLO bike, an urban bike with a magnetic folding mechanism, entered the market in 2015.

Vodev is a three-time winner of the International Bicycle Design Competition and won the Red Dot Concept Award in the Mobility category in 2009 and the Red Dot "Best of the Best" for the VELLO bike in 2015.

Vodev's design products were exhibited at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the London Design Festival, the ICFF in New York, 100% Design in London and Tokyo and the Vienna Design Week.
