Valenzuela flavidus is a dust louse from the Caeciliusidae family . It is often referred to as bark louse (Engl. Bark louse called).

features

The slender yellowish colored insects reach a length of three millimeters. They have brownish spots. The feelers are 13 elements. The wings have a distinctive brownish vein. The nymphs are also colored yellow.

distribution and habitat

The species is found in the Palearctic (northern part of Eurasia) and in the Nearctic (North America). Furthermore, the distribution area extends in Central America to Costa Rica. Valenzuela flavidus is mainly found on deciduous trees and bushes.

Way of life

The dust lice can be observed from June to October. They usually make three generations a year. Among other things, they feed on mushrooms. The species is an egg hibernator.
