Valgerður Gunnarsdóttir (born July 17, 1955 in Dalvík ) is an Icelandic politician ( Independence Party ).

Valgerður holds a BA in Icelandic Studies and General Literature from the University of Iceland (1982), a degree in Didactics and Pedagogy from Akureyri University (1996) and a postgraduate degree in school administration. Among other things, she worked at the secondary school in Húsavík and was director of the Framhaldsskólinn á Laugum boarding school in Laugar , Þingeyjarsveit from 1999 to 2013 . From 1986 to 1998 she was a member of the city council of the then municipality of Húsavík, and from 1994 to 1996 she was city council chairman.

Since the Icelandic parliamentary elections on April 27, 2013 , Valgerður was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the Northeast constituency . Most recently she was fourth in the Vice-Presidency of Parliament ( 4th varaforseti ) and was a member of the Icelandic delegation to the Nordic Council (2017 chairperson of the delegation) and of the Icelandic delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2016 . In the parliamentary elections on October 28, 2017 , she lost her seat in the Althing.
