Vallby Friluftsmuseum is an open-air museum located two kilometers north of Västerås , in the Swedish province of Västmanland County .

history

The museum was founded in 1921 by Sven T. Kjellberg and is now run by the city of Västerås. The museum is one of the largest open-air museums in Sweden and has around 40 buildings: wooden and stone houses from urban and rural areas. The oldest houses date from the 17th century. Endangered native breeds of domestic animals are also preserved and handicrafts and cultivated and ornamental plants of the region are maintained.
