Valleix points

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Valleix points (after the Parisian pediatrician François Louis Isidore Valleix , 1807–1855) in the real sense are the nerve pressure points of the sciatic nerve ( sciatic nerve ): lumbar points IV and V, sacroiliac, upper and lower gluteal, popliteal, peroneal , Malleolar point. Their tenderness is symptomatic of sciatica (irritation of the sciatic nerve or its roots . Eg root compression due to herniated or peripheral lesion after trauma ).

In everyday clinical practice, other nerve pressure points that react painfully to pressure when the stimulus threshold is reduced (symptomatic e.g. for neuralgia or neuritis ) are referred to as Valleix points . Classic examples of neurological diagnostics are the pressure points of the trigeminal nerve or its three main trunks in the facial area.
