Value of Children

The term child value or originally English. value of children referred to in the rational choice theory the benefit of children for their parents .

According to the theory of social production functions , children are intermediate goods for achieving parental basic needs for physical and psychological well-being. Accordingly, the value of children plays a crucial role in family planning and intergenerational relationships, especially with regard to intercultural differences.

Essentially, the value is divided into the benefits and costs of children, with individual dimensions being mapped according to the social production function theory.

Use

  • Stimulation (children make life more intense and fulfilling)
  • Comfort (child labor, support in the household , support in old age)
  • Status (with children being more respected by others)
  • Confirmation of behavior (feeling of being used)
  • Affect (affection, love)
