Vandy Rattana

Vandy Rattana (* 1980 in Phnom Penh ) is a Cambodian photographer .

life and work

Vandy Rattana studied law at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia and started photography in 2005. As a photographer he is self-taught .

Some of Rattana's photo series are Looking In (2005-2006), Fire of the year series (2008), and Walking Through (2008-2009). His series have features of both photojournalism and artistic photography . In 2012 Rattana Vandy exhibited at dOCUMENTA (13) .

An important topic of Rattanas is the bombing of Cambodia by the Americans between 1964 and 1975. He toured the ten most affected provinces, collecting reports from contemporary witnesses and tracking down bomb craters. This resulted in the photo series Takeo (2009) and Bomb Ponds (2011), as well as a single-channel video.
