Vang Lutheran Church (Manfred)
The Vang Lutheran Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the village of Manfred in Wells County in the US state of North Dakota . It is the only surviving pioneer church in Manfred.
history
The Vang Lutheran Church is one of a number of preserved pioneer churches of that name on the Great Plains , which were built by Norwegian Lutheran immigrants. The Lutheran congregation was constituted in Manfred in 1896 and initially used private houses. In 1904 the construction of the church could begin, which was consecrated in 1906. In 1918 the church was moved one block further on to a newly constructed basement with community rooms. In 1945 the parish decided to hold services in English as well as Norwegian services.
The parish belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America . Since 2001, the church has been a listed building in the US National Register of Historic Places with the number 01000674. In 2002, Preservation North Dakota supported a renovation of the building.
