Vara (German: Warrol ) is a former rural community in the Estonian district of Tartu with an area of 333.04 km². It had 1947 inhabitants (as of June 1, 2006). Since 2017 it has belonged to the rural municipality of Peipsiääre .
Vara is located in the northwest of the district, approx. 20 km from Tartu . In the east, Vara borders on Lake Peipus . In addition to the main town of Vara (416 inhabitants), the rural municipality also included the villages of Ätte, Alajõe, Kargaja, Kauda, Keressaare, Koosa, Koosalaane, Kusma, Kuusiku, Matjama , Meoma, Metsakivi, Mustametsa, Papiaru, Pilpakõüla, Praaga, Põldõdra, Põldguma , Rehemetsa, Selgise, Sookalduse, Särgla, Tähemaa, Undi, Vara, Vanaussaia and Välgi.
