Bush's dwarf monitor ( Varanus bushi ) is a newly discovered species from the genus of monitor lizards ( Varanus ). The specific epithet honors the naturalist and herpetologist Brian Bush . Varanus bushi belongs to the subgenus Odatria .

description

Bush's dwarf monitor lives in Pilbara , a region in Western Australia . Adult Bush's dwarf monitor lizards reach a total length of 35 cm. In appearance, V. bushi is very similar to Gillen's monitor lizard ( Varanus gilleni ) and the striped- tail monitor ( Varanus caudolineatus ). Through morphological and genetic studies it has been found that all three species are genetically individual and therefore all were raised to the species status. Insects of all kinds are on their menu . The behavior of this monitor lizard has so far hardly been researched. It was first described in 2006 by Ken Aplin, Alison Jane Fitch and Dennis J. King.
