Vasili Panciuc

Vasili Panciuc ( Russian Василий Тарасович Панчук / Wassili Tarassowitsch Pantschuk ; born September 14, 1949 in Sadki , Vinnitsa Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Moldovan politician ( PKRM ) and was mayor of the city of Bălți from 2001 to 2015 .

Life

Panciuc was born in Ukraine in 1949 in the village of Sadki near Mogilew-Podolski . He studied engineering at the Automobile Technology Institute in Kiev . After graduating, he came to the Moldavian SSR in 1978 , where he worked in the Bălți City Transport Administration .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he joined the re-established Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova . In 1999 he became deputy mayor of Bălți. In June 2001 he was elected the city's first mayor with an overwhelming majority of over 74% of the vote, replacing Victor Morev . In 2007 Panciuc was re-elected with 69.2% of the vote. In the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova in 2010 , he was elected as a member of parliament and handed over his mayor's position to his party colleague Octavian Mahu at the beginning of 2011 . In the mayoral election in the same year, however, Mahu surprisingly did not run for the communists, instead Panciuc ran again for mayor. Panciuc was then elected into his third term with 68.2%. He gave up his post as a member of parliament.

He is married and has two children.
