Father Murphy (Original Title: Father Murphy ) is an American television series .

action

The series takes place in the USA after the end of the Civil War . In a mine explosion, 25 children, including Will Adams ( Timothy Gibbs ) and siblings Lizette ( Lisa Trusel ) and Ephrem Winkler ( Scott Mellini ), lost their parents. The simple man John Michael Murphy ( Merlin Olsen ) then pretends to be a priest in order to be able to open an orphanage, which he uses to save the children from the labor camp. He is supported by the teacher Mae Woodward ( Katherine Cannon ) and the mine worker Moses Gage ( Moses Gunn ). After Murphy's cover is blown, he and Mae get married and the couple adopt all 25 children.

The series was created by Michael Landon . Father Murphy is often referred to as a spin-off from Our Little Farm . However, Merlin Olsen and Moses Gunn each played a different role in Father Murphy than they did in Our Little Farm .

Awards

In 1982 the series won the Young Artist Award in the Best Television Series - Family Enjoyment category , and Timothy Gibbs also won the Best Young Actor in a Television Series category . Gibbs received the same award in 1983 in the same category. Paul W. Cooper also won the Spur Award in the Best TV Script category . In 1983 his colleague Don Balluck received the same award in the same category.
