Patriotic women's association Düren

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Düren Fatherland Women's Association was a branch of the Fatherland Women's Association (VFV), which was founded by the Prussian Queen (later German Empress) Augusta in 1866.

The association pursued the goals "to promote and support all institutions serving in the field of care for the wounded and sick in times of war."

The branch in Düren was established in 1871/72. In 1898, the industrial couple Agnes and Eberhard Hoesch gave the club a house in Holzstraße 3–5 as a club house. (The house is still standing today -2017-) Agnes Hoesch was chairwoman of the association for many years until her death in 1903. She left him 150,000 marks.

Since there was almost 40 years of peace after the Franco-German War in 1870/71, the association had to set itself further tasks so that it could continue to exist. He now also made the elimination of extraordinary emergencies his own. For example, model workers' houses were to be built on a piece of land donated by the Hoesch couple in Rurstrasse . After the beginning of the First World War , 253,000 marks in donations etc. were collected within the first year. The association operated a refreshment point for troops passing through at the Düren train station. Looking after war hospitals and hospital trains was one of the main tasks of the Patriotic Women's Association.
