The Vauxhall Monaro VXR

The Vauxhall Monaro is based on the Holden sedan Commodore , it is a Holden Monaro from Australia , slightly adapted to European conditions , whose engine comes from the Corvette . Although approved according to EU standards, the car was offered as Vauxhall in Great Britain , but not as Opel on the European continent. The Monaro was offered as the Pontiac GTO in the United States , the Holden Monaro and HSV Coupe in Australia, and the Chevrolet Lumina Coupe in some Middle Eastern countries.

Production ended in mid-2006, but the last copies were sold as Pontiac. The Vauxhall VXR8 can be regarded as the successor despite the sedan body.

The German small series manufacturer Erich Bitter (who went through a long dry spell after the very successful Gran Turismos CD based on Opel Diplomat B and SC based on Opel Senator A) tried in 2003 to bring a new sports coupé based on the Monaro / GTO onto the market. The name: Bitter CD2 .
