Vejle Stadsarkiv

The Vejle Stadsarkiv (German Vejle City Archives ) is the archive of the Danish municipality of Vejle . The current director of the archive (as of February 2013) is Susanne Conradsen.

history

The origins of the archive lie in the local history collection of the teachers Fredy Jensen (1933–1988) and William Rosenkilde (1925–2002). The two had been collecting sources for teaching needs since the 1960s . The Vejle Byhistoriske Arkiv (German Vejler City History Archive ) was founded in 1967 on the occasion of a donation of local historical films to Jensen and Rosenkilde.

A year later, the collection was moved from the teacher's house to its own room in the basement of Nørremarkskole . The two teachers focused on the collection of photographs and were able to increase them in 1976 by participating in the Billedstormen project in what was then Vejle Amt . In this context, the population was asked to donate private sources on local history or at least to borrow them for copies.

A similar project took place in 1982 under the direction of the archivist Asbjørn Hellum . He became archive manager three years later, which he remained until he was appointed rigsarkivar in November 2009.

In 1987 the archive moved to the former cheese warehouse of Danske Ostermejeriers Fælleslager og Osteeksport (DOFO), which had meanwhile been converted into a cultural center called Domus . Now it also had office space and a reading room. A decade later, the archive moved again to the former administration building of the candy manufacturer Dandy . Two years earlier, it had become an independent community institution with the task of archiving the community files. For this reason, the archive was initially renamed Vejle Byhistoriske Arkiv og Stadsarkiv and later Vejle Stadsarkiv . With the territorial reform in 2007, the size of Vejle municipality changed and with it the area of responsibility of the archive, which now also has an interim archive.

In 2008, the archive presented the web project vejlefilm.dk, on whose website films on municipal history can be viewed.

The city wiki Vejlewiki , which covers Vejle and the surrounding area, is operated by the archive. Currently (as of April 2013) the wiki contains almost 650 articles.
