Asbjørn Hellum (born March 24, 1952 in Brønderslev ) is a Danish historian and since November 2009 chief archivist ( rigsarkivar ) of Rigsarkiv .

Hellum is the son of the tailor Gunnar T. Hellum († 2009) and the consultant Else K. Hellum († 2004). In 1977 he married the technical assistant Anette, also from Brønderslev. Hellum studied history and social sciences at Ålborg Universitetscenter until 1983 . After successfully completing his studies as a cand.mag. He was first archivist in local history archive of Aalborg municipality and in August 1985 head of Vejle's city archives ( Vejle Stadsarkiv ). For many years he was the head of Sammenslutning af Lokalarkiver and was involved in founding the organization Danske Arkiver , of which he became the first head in 2006 and stayed until 2008. After he was the chief consultant in the state archives in 2000 , he has been their head since November 2009 as rigsarkivar .

He is the author of various books on the history of Vejler.
