The Velograph (French brand name: Vélographe ) is the first typewriter designed, manufactured and sold in Switzerland based on the principle of the pointer system .

history

The typewriter was invented in 1886 by the Swiss Adolphe Prosper d'Eggis (1855–1941) from Friborg . The Velograph was manufactured by "Rymtowtt-Prince & Cie." From 1887. produced in Geneva . It was shown at the Paris World's Fair in 1889 .

function

The character field (letters) consists of a circular disk, the individual letters are selected by turning the disk using a rotary knob. After the sign has clicked into place, a lever is depressed and the imprint appears on the paper . A roller inking unit is used as the inking unit. In 1889 an improved velograph was patented in Switzerland, the type was named by the inventor Adolphe d'Eggis "Commerciale" and was produced as a dome-shaped model with a ribbon and a central rotary knob.
