Velsenstrasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Velsenstraße is a street in the district of Gronau of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district .

The street was named in 1973 after Velsen , a Dutch twin town of Bergisch Gladbach. This should highlight the importance of town twinning and the European idea. The city council justified its decision that it wanted to distance itself from the earlier naming of many streets after generals and battles and to give the younger generation a model. In addition, the current naming offers the opportunity to set the twin city a "monument of cordial solidarity."

In anticipation of an expected, but initially not realized, reorganization in North Holland , it was initially named Ijmuidenstrasse in 1966. In 1973 it was renamed Velsenstrasse.
