Popliteal vein

The popliteal vein (from Latin vena 'blood vein' and poples ' hollow of the knee'), the popliteal vein or knee flexion vein , is the proximal continuation of the venous vessels of the lower leg. It arises at varying heights through the union of the anterior and posterior tibial veins ( Latin: Vv. Tibiales anteriores et posteriores ) and runs in the hollow of the knee from the lower edge of the popliteus muscle to the adductor canal dorsally next to the popliteal artery .

Its continuation is called the femoral vein . The vena saphena parva joins the hollow of the knee .
