history

Venevisión (full name: Venezolana de Televisión, Compañía Anónima) was founded on February 27, 1961 by the Cuban-Venezuelan entrepreneur Diego Cisneros by acquiring and renaming the television station Televisa , which went bankrupt in 1960 . Televisa (an acronym derived from Televi sión Independiente, SA ) was founded on May 4, 1953 by broadcast entrepreneur Gonzalo Veloz Mancera. Venevisión has been broadcasting in color since 1980. Gustavo Cisneros and Ricardo Cisneros, sons of Diego Cisneros, are the current owners. Venevisión is part of the Diego Cisneros Group .
