Venrock , a combination of "Venture" and "Rockefeller", is a venture capital company founded in 1969 that builds on the investment activities of the Rockefeller family , which began in the late 1930s. It has offices in Palo Alto, California, New York City and Boston, Massachusetts.

history

The venture capitalist Laurance S. Rockefeller (1910-2004) was the fourth of six children of John D. Rockefeller, Jr . In January 1946, he founded Rockefeller Brothers, Inc., one of the first post-war venture capital firms that began with $ 1.5 million in seed capital. Overall, there were eight partners, the five brothers and their sister Abby and two non-family members, Harper Woodward and the MIT -Scientists Ted Walkowicz . In 1969 the company became known under the name Venrock. Laurance S. Rockefeller has focused his investments in companies based on science and technology. His investment interests have included aerospace, electronics, composites, optics, lasers, computing, thermionics, and nuclear energy.

Venrock closed its seventh fund in July 2014 with 8 partners and its eighth fund in January 2017 with 15 partners, each for a total of $ 450 million.
