Verbal nouns

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The verbal noun is an infinite verb form in which a verb can take on the grammatical function of a noun . In German , the verbal noun has the same form as the infinitive (which is preceded by an article ): Working .

It is thus distinguishable from the verbal noun in which a noun that was formed from a verb and the event (actions, processes) in question is called a thing .

Verbal nouns are used in particular in the island Celtic languages to form infinite constructions: Dw i'n gallu siarad Cymraeg ( Kymrisch : I can speak Kymrisch ). In German there are regionally periphrastic tenses formed with the verbal noun: He is working .
