Association of Bremen football clubs

The Verband Bremer Fußball-Vereine (VBFV) was the local football association for the Hanseatic City of Bremen from 1899 to 1907. The VBFV was founded on April 1, 1899 by the seven clubs Bremer FV, Bremer SC 1891 , Club SuS 1896 Bremen , FV Germania Bremen, ASC 1898 Bremen , SC Hansa 1898 Bremen (later AGSV Bremen) and KSV Simson Bremen were founded.

The first Bremen football championship was played in a single round in the 1899/00 season, for which seven teams were registered. The Bremen FV was not involved, but the second team of the Bremer SC 1891 also took part. Before the start of the point games, KSV Simson withdrew, but reported again for the following season. Bremer SC 1891 with its 1st team was the first Bremen master in a superior manner.

In December 1899 the FV Werder 1899 Bremen also joined the Association of Bremen Football Clubs. This was on 27./28. Represented in January 1900 when the DFB was founded in Leipzig, but did not join the new umbrella organization for the time being. This only happened in 1905 when the newly founded North German Football Association (NFV) became a corpore member of the DFB, including Bremen. Until then, the VBFV champions could not take part in the German championship .

For the 1900/01 season, nine teams have already been registered for play, but only five actually ended the point games. Werder resigned from the VBFV together with Germania in mid-October / early November after tensions within the association. Bremen SC won the championship again in 1891 , but this time with its 2nd team, which surprisingly beat the first team in the decisive game.

In the 1901/02 season was played for the first time in two classes. Werder had rejoined VBFV, but withdrew again over the course of the season. 1902/03 was already played in three classes, for the first time Werder played through and secured the championship in all three leagues.

In the new NFV, Bremen was also responsible for the clubs of the former Lower Weser Association from 1905 . After the NFV had decided on various amendments to the statutes in the spring of 1907 and asked its city associations to finally transform themselves into districts, the association of Bremen football clubs dissolved. From then on there was District VIII (Bremen) in the NFV; its sub-district Unterweser was from 1912 a separate district XI.
