The Association of German Company and Company Doctors e. V. (VDBW) is the professional association of German occupational physicians . The association is organized into a total of twenty regional associations as well as other professional group-specific forums and working groups, which ensure the integration of the diversity of occupational medical practice into professional policy activities. The members of the association come from all areas of company medical activity, such as large international companies, administrations, company medical centers, inter-company services or from their own freelance practice.

History and Development

The predecessor organization of the association was founded in Leverkusen in 1949 . After the end of the war in 1945, the need for occupational physicians had risen rapidly as industry, business and craft businesses were rebuilt . The association has over 3,300 members from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It thus represents the largest professional medical association in Europe.

Association management and priorities

On October 24, 2019, the general assembly confirmed the medical professional Wolfgang Panter as President for the sixth time. He works as a freelance company doctor. Anette Wahl-Wachendorf was also re-elected for her third term as Vice President. She is the medical director of the occupational health service of the professional association for the construction industry . The Presidium has four more members who look after individual departments.

The VDBW is characterized by its outstanding political networking. Many members are active as consultants in numerous institutions, the VDBW in turn sends mandate holders to important technical and professional policy bodies and working groups. The tasks of the VDBW include promoting the quality of occupational health care, integrating the preventive field of occupational medicine into the medical care system and supporting measures for health promotion and prevention in companies. Together with other relevant specialist disciplines and institutions, the VDBW supports the acquisition and evaluation of the latest occupational medical findings and their transfer to practice, and is involved in the design of occupational medical programs.
