The Association of German Industrial Engineers (VWI) is the federal association of students and graduates of industrial engineering courses at German universities and technical colleges in the legal form of a registered association based in Berlin. The association was founded in Berlin in 1932. In 1990 he became a founding member of the European umbrella organization European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management ( ESTIEM ). The President of the VWI is Wolf-Christian Hildebrand.

aims

The association is committed to the promotion of industrial engineering and industrial engineers and other professional groups with a similar interdisciplinary orientation. The activities are aimed at students and professionals. Students receive support in technical matters and with a view to the study regulations. The exchange with practice should be encouraged. To this end, many universities have alumni groups. The advanced training of working industrial engineers takes place in particular through the interdisciplinary exchange of experience and the transfer of new knowledge.

Another important goal of the VWI is to maintain international relationships with academic and student members of training institutions as well as with employees of companies and other institutions who pursue the same or similar goals.

When designing and introducing study programs, departments are advised, the VWI participates in the evaluation of study programs in industrial engineering, publishes research work and awards grants.

In addition, the VWI disseminates the latest findings from engineering, economics and social sciences. For this purpose, own publications are published, scientific lectures, seminars and conferences are held, meetings for training and further education are held and the exchange of experiences with companies and organizations with the same or similar objectives at home and abroad is promoted.

College groups

The VWI supports numerous university groups at universities and other colleges, primarily in Germany. There are independent student sub-organizations at universities, technical colleges and dual universities at 44 locations. Among other things, company excursions, recruiting fairs, career starter seminars, sports and leisure events are offered.

In addition, other VWI university groups are constantly being established. They are supported by a founding team from VWI eV.

Regional groups

There are also over 19 regional groups.

German Industrial Engineers Day

The German Industrial Engineers Congress (DeWIT) is the successor to the VWI Congress and has been organized regularly by the association since 1995.

Job description of the industrial engineer

The VWI publishes a study at regular intervals in order to examine the professional profile of industrial engineers in more detail. The current and 14th edition of the study: Industrial engineering in training and practice was published in 2015.
