Helmut Baumgarten

Helmut Baumgarten (* 1937 in Stolzenau , Silesia ) held the chair for material flow technology and logistics at the TU Berlin until 2004 .

Life

After his university studies and work in practice , he received his doctorate in 1972 as a Dr.-Ing. and completed his habilitation in 1974. From 1976, Baumgarten taught material flow and logistics at the TU Berlin. He was chairman of the Joint Commission for Industrial Engineering (GKWi). In addition to the TU Berlin, he was significantly involved in the development of the industrial engineering course, including as chairman and long-term member of the VWI board . Since 1972 he has been the author of the study: "Industrial engineering in training and practice". Baumgarten is also the author of numerous standard works on logistics and material flow technology. Baumgarten has retired since 2004 and handed over the chair to Frank Straube .

In 1990, Baumgarten founded the Consulting Center for Logistics and Corporate Planning (ZLU) , which he sold to Pixelpark in 2000 for around 35 million euros , which led to the dismissal of the then Pixelpark boss Paulus Neef in 2002 because the purchase price was perceived as excessive.
