from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of South Tyrolean Bands (VSM) is a 1948 formed collaboration South Tyrolean music bands . It represents 210 bands with over 10,300 musicians. In addition to promoting brass music, its aim is to preserve the cultural traditions of South Tyrol. The VSM organizes numerous different training and further education courses for old and young musicians.

history

The brass music culture (and thus the history of the association-like organization of the bands) in South Tyrol can be traced back to the 18th century. The musical and cultural tradition developed peacefully and continuously until the 1920s. With the annexation of South Tyrol by Italy in 1920 and the seizure of power by the fascists in 1923, this tradition was almost completely erased. When the VSM was founded in 1948, Sepp Thaler was the first bandmaster of the association and held this position until 1980. In order to protect the interests of the musicians, the association began to intensify development work and training activities in the field of South Tyrolean folk music .

organization

The music bands of the VSM are divided into six districts.
