Association of technical companies for film and television

The Association of Technical Operations for Film and Television eV ( VTFF ) is the amalgamation of the technical and creative service companies for audiovisual productions in Germany. Members are the leading film and television studios , post-production company (formerly Kopierwerke), camera, stage and lighting distributors, outside broadcasting companies (distributors of broadcast vans ), VFX studios, dubbing companies and other service providers.

history

On October 14, 1949, the predecessor organization Verband Filmtechnischer Betriebe e. V. (VFB) in Berlin , making it one of the oldest associations in the German film industry. Formative board members in the early years were a. Gyula Trebitsch (real film) and August Arnold (ARRI). The VFB signed a collective agreement with the German Film Union in the 1950s . At the same time, he was committed to founding the SPIO and the Federation Européen des Industries Techniques de l'Image et du Son (FEITIS). He also campaigned for educational and quality guidelines and for cooperation links between the film and television industries. As an expression of this, the VFB renamed itself in 1961 to the Association of Technical Operations for Film and Television eV (VTFF).

In the 1960s and 80s, the establishment of the Filmförderungsanstalt , the development of working relationships, technical standards as well as professional training and further education and the promotion of young talent were in the foreground; in the 1990s the integration of the companies from the new federal states.

With the advancing digitization and globalization of the communications industry since the turn of the millennium, the challenges facing film and television technology companies have changed considerably, so that the association's commitment now focuses on improving media policy, economic, legal and technical framework conditions. Since 2013, the VTFF has been a non-collective bargaining association, and since 2015 it has been cooperating with the Alliance of German Producers - Film & Television .

According to the statutes, the association represents the interests of technical and creative service companies in audiovisual production vis-à-vis politics, the film and media industry and industry institutions. In addition, it offers members information and services in areas such as labor law, standardization or funding and a network for professional exchange.

Association organization

Stefan Hoff ( nobeo ) has been the chairman since 2014 , the other board members are Markus Osthaus (TVN Media Group), Josef Reidinger (ARRI Media), Achim Rohnke ( Bavaria Film ), Marius Schwarz ( Studio Babelsberg ) and Christian Sommer (Trixter Film) . You represent the VTFF on the Board of Directors of the Filmförderungsanstalt, the DFFF Advisory Board, the Board of Trustees of the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation and the SPIO Presidium. The member companies can be found in the groups of outdoor broadcasting, rental, studio, post-production and VFX, which represent the various industry segments. A scientific study of service companies in audiovisual production was published for the first time in 2013.
