history

The founding date is in the year 1904. At that time the employers' association was founded for the north-western group of the association of the iron and steel industrialists, in short Arbeit-Nord-West. This association was the dominant socio-political association in the Rhenish-Westphalian industrial area until 1934 - the year the employers' associations were dissolved throughout the German Reich. Also in 1904, the regional association of the Rhenish-Westphalian iron and steel industry was established under the leadership of Arbeit-Nord-West. Under the clear leadership of Arbeit-Nord-West, you owned other regional employers' associations that were influenced by the metal industry, e.g. B. from Hagen, Remscheid, the Siegerland, Iserlohn or the southeastern Westphalia.

Differentiator to other associations

The regional association of the Rhenish-Westphalian iron and steel industry, as an association, can be clearly identified as the predecessor of METALL NRW. Not only in terms of structure, the district association became the model for the establishment of the Metal Employers' Committee of North Rhine-Westphalia (today METALL NRW) on June 27, 1948. The continuity also explains why the collective bargaining association METALL NRW is set up as an association without its own company membership . This is a distinguishing feature to all other member associations of GESAMTMETALL. The special organization of METALL NRW has guaranteed a deep anchoring of collective bargaining and socio-political interest representation in the NRW regions for over 100 years. It is precisely this that ensures that the interests of the so-called small and medium-sized enterprises can also be authentically asserted beyond the state level to the European level.
