The FA Neuman GmbH & Co. KG , also called Neuman Group is a holding company for steel and plant construction -Unternehmen from the room Eschweiler in western North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Friedrich August Neuman (1805–1881) founded a coppersmith's workshop on January 1, 1849 on Kleinmarschierstrasse in Aachen under the company F. A. Neuman . In 1871 a second production facility was built on Turmstrasse in Aachen.

After Friedrich Neumann's death, his son Friedrich J. Neuman (1842–1911) took over the company. He bought the former premises of the Hoesch & Söhne company in Eschweiler-Stich , which was relocated to Dortmund in 1876, and moved his company there in 1887.

From there, the company built gas tanks in many large cities around the world, including the famous Vienna Gasometer built in 1898 and 1910 and the 200,000 m³ Grasbrook Gasometer in Hamburg around 1909 , at that time the largest gas tank in Europe. The company also became a leader in steel construction and built a steel roof structure for the historic Aachen town hall in 1899 .

With the acquisition of patents from the engineer Otto Intze (professor of hydraulic engineering at RWTH Aachen University ) at the end of the 19th century, the company also became a leader in the construction of elevated water tanks. In 1912, it built the water tower of the Carolus-Magnus mine in Übach-Palenberg , a 500 m³ spherical container that stands on a hexagonal, three-dimensional framework .

In the same year the company had around 1,100 employees, 85 of whom were engineers and designers. The company's founder's grandchildren, Fritz Neuman († 1936) and Josef Hubert Neuman (1875–1944) had been managing directors since 1911 .

In 1936 the company built the largest high-pressure spherical gas container in the world in Szczecin .

In 1944 the company was relocated to Brackwede and later to Schladen as a "war-important operation" , but on July 1, 1945, production in Eschweiler resumed. Friedrich August Neuman (1909–1998), who had already joined the company in 1935, was the managing director .

After the war, instead of riveting the welding of plates inserted. In 1968, Dr. Friedrich August Neuman junior (* 1938) took over the management of the company, which now has 380 employees. At the same time, the third of the gas tanks was built in Vienna, which set a new world record with a capacity of 300,000 m³, a diameter of 81.5 m and a height of 85 m. The customer base was also expanded to include the chemical industry and refineries. Deliveries were made to South America, Asia, India and the Ukraine.

In 2001 the company was restructured as the holding company FA Neuman GmbH & Co. KG . In addition to FAN Anlagentechnik GmbH in Eschweiler, it also included the companies ISM (electric motors, fire protection gates) and PFE (pneumatic conveying systems for ash, dust, granulates) based in Eschweiler, ISM (crane systems, lifting technology, loading technology) in Ludwigshafen and Julius Montz ( Column internals, apparatus construction) in Hilden .

At the end of 2008, Dr. Friedrich A. Neuman retires as the last managing director from the family . On August 1, 2015, the holding company sold all shares in FAN Anlagentechnik GmbH, which still had more than 55 employees, to the Breuer-Quast family from Inden .

Political and social engagement

  • Johanna Neuman (1882–1955) founded the Eschweiler local committee of the German Mothers' Recovery Association . According to her is Johanna Neuman street named in Eschweiler.
  • Friedrich A. Neuman was President of the Association of the Metal and Electrical Industry in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1970–1980
  • The Hans Albert Neuman Foundation is a foundation for the next generation of students in the fields of architecture, civil engineering and steel construction of the company co-owner Hans Albert Neuman, who died in 1986. It is run by the Association for the Promotion of Young Talent e. V. , based in Cologne , has been administering and awarding the Hans Albert Neuman Prize since 1976 .
