The Association of the Swiss Paint and Paint Industry (French: Union Suisse de l'Industrie des Vernis et Peintures , abbreviated VSLF or USVP ) represents the interests of the Swiss paint, paint and printing inks industry in politics and the public. The association is based in Winterthur .

history

The association was founded on September 5, 1907 by 28 companies under the name of the Association of Swiss Lacquer and Paint Manufacturers . Alexis Landolt became the first president of the association . The aim at that time was the introduction of a minimal market organization and the regulation of the credit system.

After the Second World War and the typical handling of aspects of the war economy at this time, the restructuring into a modern, service-providing trade association begins. The association structures are being realigned through the creation of market, technology, training and service-oriented specialist groups and commissions and already correspond to the current structure. A start has also been made to adapt the training to become a chemical laboratory technician to paint-specific issues.

In 1951, the VSLF was a founding member of the European council of the Paint, Printing Ink and Artists` Colors Industry . In 1956, with the introduction of regional meetings in French-speaking Switzerland, the foundation stone was laid for the Groupement Romand , which was finally founded in 1966 . In 1962 the first "Economic Specialist Congress" for the European lacquer and paint industry was held in Switzerland. In 1998 the Association of Swiss Printing Ink Manufacturers (VSDF) and the Wood Conservation Interest Group (IGH) decide to dissolve and join the members of the VSLF.

In 2008, the VSLF created a new type of apprenticeship as an EFZ laboratory technician, specializing in paint and varnish . In the autumn of 2008, 16 trainees started their training. The prospective laboratory assistants from 18 different companies come together once per apprenticeship year for an inter-company course, which among other things promotes the national exchange of learners.

On January 1, 2010, the name was changed to the Association of the Swiss Lacquer and Paint Industry .

organization

The VSLF has around 50 manufacturing and / or importing members. These generate sales of around 3 billion Swiss francs and employ around 4500 people. Around 30 so-called associated members are also members of the VSLF. These are suppliers of industry-specific raw materials, equipment and services. The association's office is in Winterthur .

Lionel Schlessinger ( Monopol AG ) has been the association's president since 2013 , while Urs Schlatter ( Sun Chemical AG ) is vice-president . The board consists of a total of 9 people.

Executive conferences and commissions

The association consists of 4 executive conferences and 4 commissions. The executive conferences are in detail: building painter products , printing inks , wood and industry . There is also the Commission for Technology and Ecology , the Technical Commission for Printing Inks, the Vocational Training Commission and the Groupement Romand regional group . This is a special feature of the Swiss association and describes a regional group that represents the special interests of association members from the French-speaking part of Switzerland.

Cooperations

The VSLF is a member of the European council of the Paint, Printing Ink and Artists` Colors Industry for short CEPE ((European Association of the Paint, Printing Inks and Artists' Ink Industry )).

At the national level, the VSLF is a member of the Swiss trade association and scienceindustries . In addition, there is a close exchange with the Swiss Association of Paint and Paint Chemists (SVLFC / ASCVP), in which the employees of the branch are organized, and the Association of the Swiss Lubricant Industry.

The VSLF forms a cross-industry interest group known as IG Industrie Schweiz .

aims

The purpose of the VSLF is to "safeguard and promote the common interests of the coatings, paint and printing inks industry" . The association represents its members in dealings with authorities, government agencies, business associations, consumer and environmental organizations and the media, and promotes contact among members and cohesion between the different parts of the country.

activities

The association's tasks are monitoring and helping to shape the regulatory environment, self-regulation in environmental and health protection and official tasks. In particular, the association is involved in the areas of statistics & market research, training and further education, the branch's mouthpiece for authorities and the general public, maintaining international relationships, especially through the European industry association CEPE and providing information.
