Scienceindustries ( spelling in lower case), formerly the Swiss Society for Chemical Industry (SGCI), is the Swiss trade association for companies in the chemical , pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries . The 250 member companies are mainly active in the research, development, manufacture or sale of pharmaceutical products, vitamins, industrial specialty chemicals, pesticides as well as flavors and fragrances.

history

The trade association was founded in 1882 under the name of the Swiss Society for the Chemical Industry (SGCI). It is organized as an association and has had an office in Zurich since 1945.

Traditionally, the trade association campaigned for a competitive production, knowledge and business location in Switzerland, free access to world markets and the promotion of the innovation mentality in society. In 2008 he founded the Simplyscience Foundation , which aims to introduce young people to science and technology.

The trade association has been operating under its current name since 2011 and also represents economic policy interests in the areas of life sciences, nutrition and consumption as well as related science-based industries.

The association represents the economic and political interests of its member companies. He advocates a market economy and innovation-friendly environment for companies in Switzerland. He is a member of Economiesuisse , the umbrella organization of the Swiss economy, and works with European and international associations that represent similar interests (including CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Council), ECPA (European Crop Protection Association), EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries) and Associations), EuropaBio (The European Association for Bioindustries), CropLife International (Global Federation of the Plant Science Industry), ICCA (International Council of Chemical Associations), IFAH (International Federation for Animal Health), IFPMA (International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations)).
