EuropaBio ("The European Association of Bio-Industry") is a European looby organization for biotechnology based in Brussels.

Members include 60 industrial companies (including, for example, Monsanto , Bayer , BASF and Evonik ), 13 associated members and organic regions (including BIO.NRW and Nestlé ) and 16 national biotech associations (including BIO Deutschland , France Biotech ) . The association represents around 1800 small and medium-sized companies in Europe.

The association was founded in 1996 to represent the interests of the biotech industry at the highest European level and to influence the legislation of the European Union in such a way that it serves the interests of the biotech industrial companies. The main goal of EuropaBio is the faster approval of genetically modified crops in the EU. EuropaBio is financed through membership fees and support from third parties.

Organization and structure

The board is made up of representatives from member companies. He is supported for day-to-day tasks by the secretariat, which is administered by a general secretary. In terms of content, the main areas are divided into health (red biotechnology), industry (white biotechnology) and agriculture (green biotechnology), to which working groups are assigned under the leadership of EuropaBio. In addition, the national biotech associations are involved, which also have working groups.

aims

The focus of the goals lies within Europe, but the association also represents its internationally operating members worldwide. The aim is to promote an innovative and dynamic biotechnology-based industry in Europe, as well as to remove the barriers to competitiveness in comparison with other regions of the world, in particular with regard to genetic engineering. EuropaBio undertakes to conduct an open dialogue with all parties involved about the ethical, social and economic aspects of biotechnology and its applications and to act responsibly.
