The Association for Weapon Technology and History (VdW) is a registered association based in Düsseldorf, which sees itself as a lobby for legal weapon owners and those interested in weapons historically and technically (e.g. collectors, historians, technicians, hunters and target shooters). The chairman is the lawyer, gun law expert and specialist author Hans Scholzen.

founding

The VdW was founded after the German Arms Exchange on 14-18. May 1969 and was initially entered in the Schwäbisch Hall register of associations. The German Weapons Journal (dwj) took over the sponsorship and still reports today in its own section about the VdW. The association has had a secretariat in Düsseldorf since 1975 and is now entered in the Düsseldorf AG Register of Associations under the number 5374.

tasks

Core tasks are advising and further training the approximately 3,000 association members in the areas of gun law, gun technology and gun history and promoting science and research, art and culture in this special area as well as shooting sports. The VdW offers its members legal advice and expert services as well as insurance protection for administrative litigation and arbitration proceedings in the field of weapons and explosives law. Furthermore, he works as a member of the Forum Gun Law , but also independently through reports, initiatives and publications in the activities in the field of gun legislation in Germany and Europe. The VdW is also a member of the FESAC ( Foundation of European Societies of Arms Collectors ) based in Holland, an association of European collectors' associations, such as the Board of Trustees for the Promotion of Cultural and Historical Weapons Collections and others with those of the VdW.

Expert activity

The association also promotes expert work in the field of weapon technology and history and founded an expert committee for this purpose in 1975. The committee examines new applicants according to personal and objective standards and proposes them to the board of the VdW for appointment and appointment. The appraisers of the association are obliged to carry out their tasks impartially and are subject to confidentiality. The focus of the expert's work lies in the assessment of the cultural-historical significance of weapon collections as well as in the valuation of weapons. The VdW has joined the BSB 1874 eV and has thus opened up further offers for its members (e.g. endorsements according to § 14 WaffG).
