action

Famous buildings are disappearing all over the world and the authorities are puzzled. When the Statue of Liberty disappears, Otis is in the toilet, where he was trapped by a classmate. Almost at the same time, after the shop closes, Olivia hides with her pigeon in the Kaufhaus des Westens in Berlin , as she is fleeing the police who want to put her in a children's home due to her mother's alcohol addiction. This building is also disappearing.

The children quickly notice that something strange has happened and that their surroundings have changed, the buildings seem to stand on slabs floating in the air. When the eye of a giant peers through a window into the department store, Olivia realizes that it has been shrunk and that the buildings stand on huge tables in one room.

When Otis screams, Olivia hears this and sends her pigeon Columbina off with a message. This flies to Otis, who sends a letter back, whereupon Olivia sets out to find him.

Together, the two make their way to the Golestan Palace , where they meet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad, who tells them a legend about an oil lamp that has the power to shrink things, and its counterpart, which can reverse what has happened . As they look for a way out, more and more buildings and people gather in the room that belongs to a castle where Reginald, a madman, lives.
