Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol

The Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol is an award from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol . It can be awarded to deserving personalities by the provincial government who have their place of residence outside of South Tyrol. Special merits in the scientific, artistic, cultural, pictorial, sporting or economic field can be honored, as can the meritorious commitment to social and humanitarian issues as well as to environmental issues. It is awarded on September 5th , the anniversary of the Paris Treaty . It was awarded for the first time in 2008.

The order is divided into two categories, the Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol and the Great Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol. The number of living bearers of the medals is limited, to a hundred for the Great Order of Merit and 150 for the Order of Merit. The gold and silver medals were created in collaboration between the Faculty of Design at the Free University of Bozen and a local goldsmith.

The Great Order of Merit consists of a medal in gold, a necklace in silver, a small edition of the order in the form of a pin, a certificate of honor in which the reasons for the honor are given, glass boxes for the chain and the certificate of honor.
