The plaque of merit of the Peace Council of the GDR was an award from the Peace Council of the GDR (DFR) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1955 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the world peace movement and then awarded for the first time in 1956. They were usually awarded for achievements that served to spread the ideas of the world peace movement.

Appearance and wearing style

The first form of this merit plaque corresponded to an oval silver plaque with a height of 34.5 mm. In the upper half it showed a flying dove of peace and below the inscription FOR / STRENGTHENING / PEACE / MOVEMENT . The lettering and the symbol were enclosed by two laurel branches crossed below , which ended 3/4 of the way up with a waving bow.

The second form (which was awarded from 1973 onwards) is a round medal with a diameter of 24.5 mm, with a dove of peace on its obverse . The medal itself hung on a crescent-shaped silver clasp and showed the letters DFR . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, showed the inscription FOR / STRENGTHENING / PEACE / MOVEMENT . In later versions of this medal, the diameter of the medal was 26 mm and had a clasp covered in blue.

All variants were worn on the left chest of the borrower, the medals above the left breast pocket.
