from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The honorary title of Honored University Professor of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. The title was donated on February 13, 1975. It was awarded for outstanding services in the education and training of the GDR's academic cadre, but also for outstanding services in the socialist upbringing of students and young academics.

The number of awards was limited to 10 honorary degrees annually. Thus, this honor with proven 161 awards is one of the rarest in the GDR. The excellent university professor received a medal, a certificate and a cash award (bonus) of 5,000 marks.

Appearance

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm shows a laurel wreath on its obverse with the inscription: MERIT / UNIVERSITY / TEACHER / THE GDR . The reverse of the medal shows the GDR's national coat of arms.

Carrying method

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 25 × 14 mm red covered ribbon. A miniature gold-plated laurel branch was also placed on the interim clasp.
