Association of Feminist Science Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FemWiss - Association of Feminist Science Switzerland is an independent national actor in the field of equality and science policy and advocates the issues of women's and gender studies ( gender studies ) at Swiss universities.

Foundation and activities

The association was founded in 1983 by women from the tertiary education sector with the aim of establishing feminist science at universities and colleges. At the same time, these women have moved the science and research landscape in Switzerland and helped write a part of women's movement and equality policy.

The promotion of feminist science in the tertiary sector has since advanced. Almost all universities and technical colleges in Switzerland now have corresponding courses of study, centers for gender studies and equality departments. The FemWiss association was the first feminist organization in the field of tertiary education and the spark for the further development of feminist science and its institutionalization in Switzerland.

The objectives according to the statutes are:

  • Promotion of feminist science
  • Promote women's and gender studies in research and teaching in the tertiary education sector in Switzerland
  • Intervention in the interests of equality and the promotion of gender studies in science policy at the federal level
  • Network and forum for a critical discussion of questions of feminist science and gender studies in general

The association organizes events on a regular basis and publishes FemInfo three times a year .
