Memorial at Meuselwitz station

The association Kohlebahnen e. V. , based in Meuselwitz, maintains the history of mining and its railway engineering in the lignite area around Regis-Breitingen , Haselbach, Rositz and Meuselwitz and runs the historical operation on the former coal line Meuselwitz-Haselbach-Regis-Breitingen , called Kammerforstbahn , for 15 km , with a track width of 900 mm.

Emergence

V10B in the technical museum Meuselwitz

In 1996 some railway fans tried to stop the dismantling of the former mine railway. In the same year the association Kohlebahnen Haselbach eV was founded. In April 1998, the route could be used for the first time with special trips. Due to the general response, the coal railway season was opened with regular operation in the following year. Previously, the catenary masts on the route were dismantled.

Trip program and events

Starting from the Meuselwitz station, where there is a technical museum and a model railway exhibition in the locomotive line at the Kulturbahnhof, one of the existing diesel locomotives or the electric LEW EL 3 with aggregate wagons is driven to Regis-Breitingen almost every weekend from March to December . Since 1998 the Western Days in Haselbach have been held annually on the 3rd weekend in August on the route and in Haselbach. Showmen and artists meet with historical performances, u. a. with an Indian show, an authentic cattle drive as well as a bird of prey show and country music.

Technical Museum

Locomotive of the Brunswick coal mines

In the former Meuselwitz locomotive station with a large outdoor area, roundhouse and turntable, there are normal and narrow-gauge tracks. Some of the vehicles were added in November 2001 from the disbanded rail vehicle exhibition of the Mining Technology Museum (Gertrud briquette factory) in Rositz / Zechau.

Vehicles (locomotives)

In addition to a steam storage locomotive of the type FLC from LKM production and another machine of the same type, which was built in Meiningen and is erected as a monument at the station, the museum railway association owns several LKM V 10 C and two LEW EL 3 . In addition to a narrow-gauge steam locomotive in refurbishment, the nationwide only surviving Henschel EL 3, various small and industrial locomotives, two large Schöma locomotives of the Braunschweigischen Kohlen-Bergwerke AG in Helmstedt from the former opencast mines "Treue", " Alversdorf "and" Helmstedt "added. The first (BKB factory number 210) was able to be worked up and re-approved within a very short time. Three light rail locomotives and maintenance vehicles from the factory traffic of the brown coal railways complete the collection.
