The Association for the History of the Workers' Movement (VGA) is an Austrian association founded in 1959 . It is considered a scientific institution in the vicinity of the municipality of Vienna ( Municipal Department 8).

The association collects relevant historical sources, carries out research projects, issues scientific and popular education publications and organizes symposia and exhibitions.

The director and an employee of the Vienna City and State Archives are represented on the board. The director (currently Michaela Maier), a research assistant and a research assistant at the VGA are employees of the Vienna City and State Archives : The library is highly specialized and contains around 65,000 volumes of all published documents of Austrian social democracy and their political and intellectual environment as well as numerous bequests and other personal documents. The Association for the History of the Workers' Movement is housed in the Vorwärts building , the former headquarters of the Vorwärts Verlag , in the 5th district of Vienna Margareten .
