Association for the promotion of sustainability in residential construction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association for the Promotion of Sustainability in Housing Construction - NaWoh e. V. (seat: Berlin) was founded in January 2012 by associations of the real estate industry, housing industry academies and the tenants' association in order to give the quality seal “ sustainable housing ” an organizational framework. With the founding of the association, interested builders have the opportunity to receive the quality seal for their new buildings via a conformity test.

With this system, new multi-family houses to be built can be described and assessed since 2012. Within the various sustainability assessment systems on the market, this system specializes in particular on the possibilities of action for housing companies as portfolio holders.

The focus of the association's work is on ensuring the certification process and the award of a seal of quality for sustainable building as well as the further development of the certification system.

Another goal is to further advance the idea of sustainability. The certificate is also a means to an end.

Roots and mission statement

In the real estate industry, sustainability in the building sector has long been an issue. For property owners in the real estate industry, this principle is, if you will, even vital because it secures the basis of entrepreneurial success. In this respect, the basic understanding of sustainability is firmly anchored in the housing industry. Nevertheless, it is not necessarily the consequence that this basic principle is visibly conveyed to the public.

With the help of the quality seal, lived sustainability is made transparent and measurable. It is very important to achieve harmony between the three aspects of sustainability. It must not happen that one aspect comes to the fore at the expense of the other - not even ecology. Acting ecologically in a sustainable way requires an economic basis, on the basis of which social commitment can also be financed.

The NaWoh seal is therefore not a pure green label, but rather stands for a balanced relationship between the pillars of sustainability. Important cornerstones are resource-saving and energy-efficient new buildings, as well as a high quality of construction and living within the framework of economic profitability.

Work and goals

The "Association for the Promotion of Sustainability in Housing Construction e. V. ”aims to anchor the concept of sustainability in residential construction and to promote the quality of buildings and transparency in building with a focus on sustainability. The basic understanding of sustainability in residential construction is to be conveyed in many ways. In addition to the publication of scientific findings and practical experience, further training and the exchange of opinions and experiences in this area are to be promoted and supported. At the same time, the system for certification of buildings is to be further developed and implemented in broad practice.

Certification system

The quality seal for sustainable housing breaks down criteria into:

  • Living quality
  • Ecological quality
  • Economic quality
  • Technical quality
  • Process quality

and embeds these on the one hand in the environmental conditions and location factors and on the other hand in the market situation and corporate strategy. What is new is not just a comprehensive consideration of the quality of living. The technical quality also reflects a planning and structural reaction to the location and environment. It is particularly important that the economic quality is also viewed from the client's point of view.

The system can also be used as a guide, planning aid and to support quality assurance, regardless of the quality seal. That is why the evaluation criteria are publicly accessible and free of charge for easy application on the website of the NaWoh association.

In order to have intermediate status checked and confirmed, a planning certificate was integrated into the normal certification process as a verification option. The planning certificate loses its validity when the building is completed and, if successful, will be replaced by the NaWoh seal. However, if the information on the planning status changes, these must be re-evaluated and checked. All evidence that can only be provided after the construction has been completed must of course be submitted for checking the final NaWoh seal.
