The Calf Rock ( English for Kalbungsfelsen ) is a 500 m (according to British data 655 m ) high rock formation on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises 3 km northeast of Lamina Peak and just as far inland from George VI Sound .
The coast around the rock was first sighted and photographed by the American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth during a flyover on November 23, 1935. These aerial photographs were used by the US cartographer WLG Joerg for a rough mapping. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a survey in 1949 and named the formation after its position relative to the ridge of Lamina Peak, from which it is separated by a fault .
